...related to recent events:
- Google released an update to SketchUp 7.1. One of the improvements has been Collada export. Now, all my comments of previous post about Collada files content are obsolete: SketchUp emits correctly Group/Component names and preserves (at least in the examples I tried) the Groups/Components hierarchy. Import problems in other applications are still there, but at least the symbolic information are emitted and therefore it is just a question of time before somebody implements a SketchUp compatible Collada import. In addition, this update removes my doubts about Google interoperability stance: the old 7.1 problems were not a dastardly plan, but simply bugs.
- Blender 2.5 Alpha 0 is out. In the past I tried without success to learn this program, always being stopped by its inscrutable user interface. Version 2.5 is a huge step forward w.r.t. usability (and also appearance, I saw somebody writing "it looks like Cinema4D") and I have been able to follow some tutorials without troubles. Even if you do not make it your primary 3D application, you can still look at it as a bag of free and powerful plugins for your application of choice.
- I have began contributing freebies (with the objective to graduate to vendor status) on Renderosity and I am also resurrecting my website: I will write more information about these items in the near future.
